About Me
Kai-Wen Chuang, M.D., received her undergraduate degree at the University of California, Berkeley. She graduated with the highest distinction in general scholarship in 2004 with a major in Molecular & Cell Biology and a minor in Toxicology.
Dr. Chuang attended medical school at the University of California, San Francisco, where she first developed an interest and passion for pediatric urology. From there, she went on to successfully complete her surgical internship and urology residency at the North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System (now Hofstra Northwell School of Medicine) in New York. In 2014, Dr. Chuang returned to her alma mater, the University of California, San Francisco, for her pediatric urology fellowship. During her fellowship, Dr. Chuang concurrently received formal training in epidemiology and biostatistics as she earned a certificate in Advanced Training in Clinical Research.
In addition to quality patient care, Dr. Chuang is also committed to medical education and scholarly work. She was the first resident physician at the Smith Institute for Urology to receive a departmental teaching award for her exemplary dedication to teaching, and she was just announced as a recipient for the Great People Award, recognizing her contributions to the diverse UCSF School of Medicine Community even after her departure from the institution. Dr. Chuang has published in peer-reviewed journals and is an invited author for several urology textbooks of high impact.

- prenatal hydronephrosis
- undescended testes
- bladder & bowel dysfunction
- spina bifida and conditions affecting sex development
- long-term outcomes of congenital renal conditions and complex urogenital reconstruction
Born and raised in Taiwan, Dr. Chuang is fluent in Mandarin Chinese.
Dr. Chuang is seeing patients at the Larry & Helen Hoag Foundation Pediatric Urology & Nephrology Center at MemorialCare Miller Children’s & Women's Hospital Long Beach.
